Austin High School Round Up: Tuesday, February 15th

Pflugerville 73  Stony Point 45
The Ville cruises into the playoffs with a laugher, as they went deep into their bench. As usual they were leed by PG Deon Mitchell (Northern Iowa) who had 14.

Mitchell intends on leading his talented Pflugerville squad deep into the playoffs.

Austin Anderson 54  Del Valle 49
A young Anderson squad was led by 2013 G John Gramlich who had 19 points as the Trojans under 1st year Head Coach Leal Anderson make their inaugural appearance in the 5A playoffs.  The reward for their efforts are a State Ranked Top 10 opponent, Pflugerville.  Karim York of Del Valle finished up his prep career with 25 points in the loss.  The next time he laces them up will be for Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference.

The 6’7″ York now heads to Santa Clara after a successful prep career

Austin High 71  Austin Westlake 41
With three seniors in double figures: PG Eric McClellan (15), Chance Robbins (17) & Alex Reinking (11) the Maroons were on auto pilot in the win.  Along with P’ville they are my favorites to advance out of the Austin 5A ranks.

Austin LBJ 87  Austin Travis 42
Senior D.D. Bird had 22 & Robert Lee had 20 in the runaway win that ensured the Jags another District co-championship with McCallum.

Pflugerville Hendrickson 84  Elgin 62
2011 G Jalen Washington, the hottest name on college coaches tongues for the spring signing period had 29 to lead the Hawks while Jalen Harris (Army) added 19.  The Hawks are my pick to come out of Austin in the 4A ranks.

Washington has put recruitment on hold until the playoffs end. Can he lead the Hawks to the 4A Final Four at the The Drum in Austin?

Austin Akins 59  Austin Bowie 49
Senior Anthony Rivera led the way with 21 points, most from the perimeter as both teams jockeyed for playoff position.  Bowie got 25 from 2011 P Connor Robinson who inch for inch is the Manny Pacquio of the Austin basketball scene.  He’s one tough hombre down low at only 6’4″.

Bowie’s playoff run will rest squarely on Robinson’s broad shoulders
